I Know Who Holds Tomorrow

Music is an important part of my life. I love singing and I often find solace in singing hymns and songs of worship. A friend of mine once joked that I had a song for every occasion. I assured her I would rather sing than cry. Many times when I feel overwhelmed, God will place a song in my heart to ease my burden and enable me to move forward. So, I guess she was right! Yesterday was filled with directives and changes. My colleagues and I spent our day working on activities for teachers while doing our best to encourage one another. Teachers had questions and desired answers. Although their questions were relevant, I was not capable of providing the real assurance they longed for. When I arrived home last night, I sat quietly in my car thinking about the events of the day. In my private sanctuary I was rejuvenated and my heart was settled. As I entered the house, I was overcome with a sense of peace. Then, almost automatically, I started humming an old familiar song: "Many things about tomorrow I don't seem to understand, But I know Who holds tomorrow And I know Who holds my hand..." My mind went back to my days in the youth choir. I would grab a hymnal and hunt for unfamiliar songs during worship services. Every Sunday I would land on this hymn and try work to commit the words to memory. I loved the words of the song, but at the time I did not understand the implications or the message of the song. Today I do. I find complete solace in the words of the song and in today's verse, John 14:27.

And we know that...in spite of the current circumstances, our Father has not been caught off guard by any of this. He is still in control. I know He holds tomorrow and I know He holds my hand.
